September 2017 edition of the Probit newsletter
Dear member of the Probit research panel:
While we continue to develop and carry out new studies, we would also like to share some of our recent results with you – our panel. As always, be on the lookout for survey invitations in the weeks ahead. Your valuable input is necessary and deeply appreciated.
In keeping with the results of our last newsletter, our newer panel members recently expressed a similarly pessimistic outlook on the Canadian economy. In a recent poll, 17 per cent of our newer contributors felt they had moved ahead financially over the last year, less than half of the 39 per cent who felt they had fallen behind. This closely reflects the sentiment of the 38 per cent who felt they had fallen behind over the last five years and the quarter who felt they had moved ahead.
When asked about their future prospects, attitudes were similarly negative. Twenty-three per cent of our newer panel members felt their financial situation would improve over the next year, while 34 per cent predicted some improvement over the next five.
Turning south, our newer panel members felt the U.S. economy was heading in more or less the same direction as Canada’s. Forty per cent felt the Canadian economy is in a state of growth, while 37 per cent said the same of the American economy.
Looking ahead two years, however, our newer panel members predicted that the Canadian economy would fare better than that of the U.S. Forty-five per cent believe the Canadian economy will be in a state of growth, while only 28 per cent think the U.S. economy – our most critical trading partner – will be in a state of economic growth.
Further to their impressions of the United States, when asked about current U.S. leadership, 12 per cent offered a positive appraisal of Donald Trump’s performance as president, while 85 per cent disapprove of the way he is handling his position.

Probit: What We Do
The key principle of Probit‘s methodology that distinguishes our panel from others is that the Probit research panel is probability-based. This allows us to accurately project survey data to the total Canadian population versus non-probability opt-in online panels. For more on this subject, please click here.
