December 2018 edition of the Probit newsletter
Dear member of the Probit research panel:
As 2019 draws near, we would like to share some of the recent survey results we collected on Canada’s outlook on personal finance, overall quality of life, and the economic union between Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
In keeping with the results of last year, newer panel members expressed a more optimistic outlook on the Canadian economy this year. In a recent poll, 25 per cent of newer contributors felt they had moved ahead financially over the last year, significantly more than half of the 39 per cent who felt they had fallen behind. This closely reflects the sentiment of the 39 per cent who felt they had fallen behind over the last five years, and as much as a third who felt they had moved ahead.
When asked about their future prospects, attitudes remained similarly positive. Twenty-six per cent of newer panel members felt their financial situation would improve over the next year, while 29 per cent predicted some improvement over the next five.
Looking at overall quality of life, newer panel members felt it was about the same as the previous generation was 25 years ago. Thirty-eight per cent felt it was worse than the previous generation was 25 years ago, while 33 per cent felt that it was better. Looking to the future generation of 25 years from now, quality of life seems much bleaker. As much as 64 per cent felt it will be worse off 25 years from now, while only nine per cent felt the next generation will be better off.
Turning south, 48 per cent of our newer panel members agree Canada, the United States, and Mexico should have an economic union like the European Union, while only 39 per cent agree Canada and the United States should have one similar.

Probit: What We Do
The key principle of Probit‘s methodology that distinguishes our panel from others is that the Probit research panel is probability-based. This allows us to accurately project survey data to the total Canadian population versus non-probability opt-in online panels. For more on this subject, please click here.
